Lutheran Community Care is responsible, on behalf of the Queensland District, for the oversight of the Hospital Chaplaincy ministry.
The reality is that we are very short of accredited Hospital Chaplains to fill all the needed positions throughout Brisbane Hospitals (both private and public) and the rest of Queensland.
It goes without saying that the Chaplains we do have, are a committed, faithful and deeply caring group of Lutherans LCC and the LCAQD have launched an awareness raising program called, “Hospital Chaplaincy Sunday” through which we hope that the Holy Spirit will touch members hearts to consider this Chaplaincy ministry We believe that every member, young or senior, can be involved in this program through our three-step approach...
Members can put their hand up to be a chaplain, or put their hands together to pray for Chaplains and put their hands out to support chaplaincy , below are the ways they can be involved...
1. Hands Up to be a Hospital Chaplain, (which is to do the HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY COURSES) 2. Hands Together to pray for Hospital Chaplaincy; (which is the HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY SUNDAY ,and 3. Hands Out to support Hospital Chaplains. (which is the “CUPPA TEA FOR HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY”)
Hospital Chaplaincy Sunday, is to be held in on one Sunday chosen by the Pastor/congregation during August or September. How involved this service is can be left to the Pastor/Congregation worship team. The simplest is to highlight the day in the church bulletin and have a prayer petition during the General prayer. However we do have other resources for you to download below.
One of the major ways you can celebrate and support Hospital Chaplaincy is to have "a cuppa tea for Chaplaincy.” This cuppa can be either after service or before, where people can give a gold coin to support Hospital Chaplaincy, or no money but rather use the event to promote the awareness of the need, not just for more chaplains but also for people to think about themselves becoming a Hospital Chaplain. We would ask that your guild, a committee or group in your church take this on as a special project. Below are a number of downloads such as images, bulletin notices worship resources, PowerPoint slides for announcing the event and much more......
