Four Toowoomba centenarians join voices for Seniors Week

FOUR will be the magic number during a Seniors Week concert hosted by Northridge Salem – uniting four Toowoomba aged care services and four female centenarians.

Queensland’s Seniors Week 2011 will be celebrated from 20–28 August with the theme Positively Ageless which reinforces the countless benefits of having a positive attitude to life at any age.

Salem residents Annie Stanley (101-years-old), Violette Linke (101), Loris Roberts (102) and Wilhelmina Dietz (100) will come together to impart their wise insights into life on Monday 22 August.

You just live on, I didn’t even know I was 100,” Annie said.

“Don’t spend all your money in one shop,” added Violet, who also revealed a highlight of her life was becoming a mother.

“I had no idea I would reach this age. I surprised myself,” Loris said.

“The best way to live is by being honest,” said Wilhelmina, who worked hard on a farm and lived a quiet life.

The celebration will bring 60 older Queenslanders together to enjoy a barbecue and live entertainment by local group Travelling Tunes leading an old-time sing-along.

Salem General Manager Terry Arthur said Seniors Week was an opportunity for people to pay tribute to older people’s achievements.

“It’s a week of positive recognition for the valuable contributions our older citizens have made in the past, and continue to make today,” he said.

“The process of ageing should be treasured and it’s vital we recognise the older people who help shape our community.”

In 2011, community groups will hold more than 50 Seniors Week events across the state.
