Koojarewon Retreat and Training Centre

 

"Koojarewon"

was the Aboriginal name given to the whole area we know as Highfields and means Top of the Range.

 

Location

Koojarewon Lutheran Camp is located 12km north of Toowoomba, travelling north along the New England Highway.  As you pass through the village of Highfields, turn right at the traffic lights at the northern boundary of the HIghfields State Primary School and pre-school grounds into Borghardt Road.  The site, approximately 500 metres from the highway overlooks the Lockyer Valley and is well situated as a base to tour parks, museums and other places of interest.

 

Facilities

 

Dormitories

The girls' dormitory accommodates 42, and the boys' 34 in double-decker bunks, with attached shower and toilet blocks.  Shower and toilet facilities for people with special needs are provided in each dormitory.

 

Guest rooms

Two rooms are located at the end of the kitchen and dining room building.  Each accommodates four persons and has an ensuite.

 

Recreation area

There is an expansive recreation area for outdoor games and sports.  Bush walks, table tennis and games equipment are available.

 

Dining hall

The hall seats 100 people with all crockery and cutlery provided.  The kitchen is well-equipped with gas stoves, dishwasher, bain marie and cooking utensils.  A PA system is located in the dining hall.  An outdoor barbecue area with wood fire is situated near the dining hall.

 

Assembly hall

Seats 100 people.  A piano, overhead projector, blackboard and whiteboard are provided in this room.
