Somerset Day Respite Care Centre

We provide a range of services for frail elderly people and for younger people with disabilities and their carers. Our service options include in-centre respite, in-home respite services, social support, community transport and information, education and support services for carers.

We are based in Lowood and serve the wider communities of the Brisbane Valley west of Brisbane. We specialise in care for eligible adults aged 18 and over experiencing mild to moderate physical and/or mental health challenges associated with ageing. Once an interview and assessment has been done, our qualified support workers can construct an individually-tailored program to support recovery. This will contribute to a sense of personal control and confidence.

“Somerset is a good place to come to. It has got other people who are nice and the staff are also nice.”

Somerset client Scott Taylor, 44-years-old

Small adjustments to lifestyle and care delivery can boost healing, enhance interpersonal skills and deliver energy to the journey of recovery – both for care recipients and carers. For example, newspaper-reading sessions help dementia sufferers stay in touch, raised counters ensure people with physical challenges can enjoy a game of bingo and loading heavy groceries for someone can enable them to maintain their shopping routine.

“I like what I do at Somerset. It is good. I like playing cricket and games like football. I like the people who talk to me and all the people here. Everyone is nice to me.”

Somerset client Stephen Fletcher, 55-years-old

Somerset Day Respite Centre also operates a program called ‘Extra Care for Carers,’ funded by the Australian Government’s National Care for Carers program. Somerset employees can arrange a visit to your home to provide in-home respite and training for carers such as lifting techniques and safe nursing at home. We will also perform activities with a client and assist with specific care needs, enabling the carer to take time out. This can make a truly positive difference to the lives of both carers and care recipients.

We also have a 12-seater bus operating regular, affordable, transport to Brassall, Riverlink, Ipswich and Gatton shopping precincts. Transport to and from home is included. Please call Somerset for details.

“It is like a home to everyone where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. We have caring staff with loads of opportunities for each and every client.”

Somerset Manager Wendy Hurley
