THE SOUTH Burnett hills will come alive with the sound of a bustling market, with Australia’s greatest ever marathon runner Robert de Castella making an appearance at Orana.
The Orana hilltop market will kick off at 7am on Saturday, November 26 showcasing a variety of stalls featuring local handmade accessories, food, giftware, clothing, décor and plants.
Hundreds of people will attend Dinner with Deek to hear Robert de Castella’s keynote speech Winning the marathon of life: exercise and healthy ageing at Orana Lutheran Complex on Friday November 25.
Rob said his brief run in at the markets would celebrate the value of rural communities banding together.
“I’m looking forward to sharing my stories and experiences with the people of Kingaroy and to have a good time with them,” Rob said.
Hundreds of people from the community will soak up the picturesque Bunya Mountain outlook with highlights including entertainment, amusements and special displays catering for families.
Kingaroy Major David Carter said the market would strengthen the bonds between people in Kingaroy.
“The Orana hilltop market will provide a dynamic forum for residents and businesses in the South Burnett region to come together as a community,” he said.
“It would be great for the local community to get behind the markets and show their support.
“This market will sell local farmers produce, home made and home baked products and bric-a-brac items”
Orana Lutheran Complex General Manager Richard Fahy invited people to get involved and set up a stall.
“This event that will give each creator an outlet to retail their wares to a larger audience,” he said.
“The market has been fashioned to support local and regional creators, designers, crafters, handmade creators.”
Chairman of Orana’s Residents Committee Geoff Thamm said the annual garage sale will also tie in with the day.
“People from the community are encouraged to donate their pre-loved goods,” he said.
“All proceeds will go toward funding Orana’s new bus for the residents.”
People can telephone Orana on (07) 4162 6555 to express their interest in donating goods for the garage sale and complete a booking form to register their market stall.
